TITLE: TRAIN TICKETS LOCATION: SHOUSHAN TRAIN STATION MISSION: SECURE A RIDE IN FIRST CLASS DATE: 2011-10-29 The wedding of my two good friends Chen Cairong and Zhang Gang is approaching quickly and today it was time buy train tickets for next week (you can buy tickets no earlier than 10 days ahead of depature). My driver took me to the train station on the way to the office this morning, we thought for sure that the ticket office would be open by 8:15. Wrong. There are very specific opening hours and we happened to swing by right in the middle of the morning break. Ooops. Nothing to do but coming back a little later. One good thing about the small size of Shoushan is the lack of people buying train tickets. The station was completely empty when we came back. We just walked right up to the counter and bought the tickets. I opted for the high-speed train (D-train, 动车) to Beijing and decided to spoil myself with a seat in first class (an extra 60元). A wonderful aspect of taking the train in China: fixed ticket prices. No worries about prices suddenly soaring. At the office a small suprise awaited us: new office decoration! Apparently one of the other departments had grown utterly sick of its flowers and this cute little waterwheel, which we gladly accepted. The temperature is starting to drop and the leaves are slowly changing colour. I expected a much colder climate than what I have experienced so far. The autumn has been extremely mild this year, but I have been assured that it will get crazy cold here soon enough. |
