TITLE: THREE FLECKS OF CIVILIZATION

Just 10 minutes after setting out I arrived at a cabin, which would have made a perfect camping spot had I just know it was around the corner. Oh, well. With the sun in my back the 4 km to Bäverholmen passed by quickly. When I arrived I met six southbound Britons, one of which had one of her boots fail her, forcing her to hike with it wrapped up in duct tape. Good as a reminder that it can always be worse next time the going gets though. 9 km later at the Adolfström I bought myself a snack in the camping store and re-taped my toes. Hiking onward I must have been blessed by some higher power, because the 14 km of consistently thick woodlands between Adolfström and the next mountain were dry and completely void of mosquitoes; I did not even put on my net! Just before crossing the tree line I came upon Pieljekaise cabin hidden away from the trail behind some large rocks. Having passed so much uninteresting woods I was rewarded with 3.4 km of gloriously bald mountains before again diving back down into the green, descending 400+m to reach the halfway point: Jäkkvik. The steepest descent was only 2.6 km but it took "forever" and all the rocks took a piece out the knees for sure. I spent the night on the church chapel lawn with the other hikers and having access to their facilities was veeeery nice. At this point I was getting quite accustomed to living alone in this big tent with my very own trekking pole garage in front. 30 km, 50880 steps, 12h. Note: the trail takes you east of the mountain peak seen in the distance where the first boat awaits down the ridge.
