TITLE: SKIRTING REMOVAL

In order to put in parquet flooring (and also to facilitate wallpapering) the skirting boards need to be removed first. Once gone I will paint them to freshen them up a little. Since the closets are in the way I called over Alexander to help me make some space around the walls. We even found a small treasure hiding behind one of the closets! Once done we eagerly moved one to task at hand. Perhaps a little too eagerly. We completely missed that the skirting was screwed in place and not nailed to the wall. Before I realized this I "applied some force" and the first board quickly became two boards. Oh, well, that is why you start with the smallest, least important room while you are still learning. The real challenge came with the screws in the lead-bearing concrete wall. Some idiot has probably tried to remove these before and completely ruined all the screw-heads, making it utterly impossible to get the board loose without breaking it. The last little bugger didn't even let go of the wall. I gave it my everything, ruined a hammer and it still hadn't budged even a millimeter. Grrr!
