TITLE: DOWNTOWN WITH 许諹
LOCATION: LIAONING SNACK STREET (辽宁小吃街)
MISSION: DINNER WITH 赵楠
DATE: 2012-01-25

After a late family lunch at Xu Jia's (许嘉) grandparent, we (the youngsters) headed downtown for some more window-shopping. A good friend of Xu Jia's happened to be looking for a birthday present for her boyfriend at the other end of the shopping street. It was quickly decided that the four of us would meet up later and have dinner together. While waiting for Zhao Nan (赵楠) to find a suitable gift, we, the Egg--Tart Group, explored the snack street. I have no idea why it is named after Liaoning Province, and neither did Xu Jia nor Xu Yang (许諹). The girls quickly found another dessert they used to eat as children, I can't remember the name, but it was something like "传米汤". It was a kind of rice-porridge with nuts and raisins that tasted a lot better than it looked. The snack street wasn't really that big and when we had finished walking up and down it twice we decided to go help Zhao Nan instead. When we finally caught up with her she was just about finished anyway and we went for dinner. Zhao Nan took us to this amazing wok restaurant where you get to pick the ingredients yourself and then they stir-fry it for you (麻辣香锅). The only predefined thing is the spiciness. We got the least spicy one, 1/3 chili peppers, and it was HOT! A full 3/3 peppers would probably be a pot with nothing but chili if the spiciness scale is linear. Have you seen this kind of restaurant in Sweden? I would love to have this kind of Chinese food back at home.
