The English guy that used to be Santa at this "Talenty" English-teaching kindergarten went back to Europe, so instead they found Greg and had him take his place. Me, Wu Yang (吴洋) and Jiang Zhuyang (姜竹阳) could not resist coming along for the spectacle. For some reason the principal had Greg go there before 17:00 when they actually needed him at 19:00, so we spent more than two hours just hanging around in the corridor (though a nicely decorated corridor). Wu failed to display the appropriate amount of gratefulness for the sausages that Jiang went out and got us, and thus got a taste of a 1000 ton hammer Jiang found lying around. At 19:03 they finally called in Greg and the show was on. It was crazy. They had just had all the kids stuffed with Coke and Dico's (like McDonalds, they had 100 meals delivered to the school...) and they were bouncing off the walls from all the sugar. First Greg had to play Put-the-Nose-on-Rudolph's-Nose with the kids and then he gave them gifts. Chinese teachers have an interesting way of playing games: you got no reward for succeeding, but you got smacked with the mallet for failing. Tragedy almost ensued when it came to the last student - Santa had run out of gifts! Fourtunately Greg is quick-witted and grabbed a baloon, put a hat on it and gave to her. Having saved the day (and Christmas), we finally got to go and have dinner. What a day.
