TITLE: MORE DINNER
LOCATION: 陈家炒鸡 (CHEN FAMILY'S FRIED CHICKEN)
MISSION: HAVE SOME "REAL" CHICKEN
DATE: 2011-10-15

Cui Yonghui (崔永辉) from procurement has been going on, and on, and on, and on about the local organic chicken (溜达鸡/笨鸡/自由鸡) ever since I got here: how it is tastier, how it is more tender than regular cage-bred chicken, how it runs around freely eating garbage and what not. So we decided to have chicken dinner after work today, to celebrate that it once again is (a one day) weekend! Me and Kang Wei (康伟) rode in Cui's badass Volkswagen (bottom right corner, third picture), windows down with Chinese techno-pop blasting on full volume. We were loud. If you don't believe me, check out the equalizer on Cui's stereo, maxed out, all the time. We got to the restaurant about when we were supposed to, but due to construction work at the tunnel under the railway (see the map from 2011-10-02), 王洪涛 (second guy on the right) got stuck in traffic for almost an hour. Besides the obligatory chicken, there were also a bunch of other interesting dishes on the table. 小人仙 (picture #4) is some kind of weird sea creature, which I cant find the English translation for, as it is the local name for it. If anyone know what I ate, let me know! Then there were dog (left corner, picture #5), sausage made of 100% pig's blood (right corner, picture #5), and then the EXTREMELY local specialty thick corn noodles (one of the best dishes if you ask me, followed by the dog)! If you thought that Chinese people can't handle alcohol, you are wrong. These guys know how to handle a bottle of booze alright. I was "lucky" tonight, they only drank liquor with 42%. I managed half a glass, they all had 2-3. Since I have been here a while now, I don't have to prove anything anymore and have moved on to drink just the bare minimum of what common courtesy requires. Even if I don't eat or drink much during these dinners, it is still interesting to listen to their stories and gossip, which gets more and more excited and with heavier and heavier accent as the firewater goes down. Good times.
