My last day in Tianjin. How to better spend it than paying Tianjin's coolest shopping mall a visit? Eight Miles is a 5-storey building packed with small stores specializing in clothes and accessories. It is THE place where all the young and trendy people go for their shopping needs. As always, our journey started at Fuxingmen station for a metro ride downtown. First we had lunch at a small restaurant close to Tianjin's biggest book store, Literature Plaza (图书大厦). A little like a quick version of hot pot; you pick the ingredients, they are quickly boiled for you, and then you add spices and sauces on top. Bellies full we pressed on towards Eight Miles. This time of year many shops are closed for the holidays and a lot of people therefore go to the big shopping street instead. This suits me just fine though. I remember coming here another time, on a regular weekday, and the place was teeming, almost bursting at the seams with school kids sampling the latest fashion. I have been wanting to replace my super cutesy Hello Kitty!-shell as it is getting pretty worn, and Xu Jia (许嘉) found me the perfect replacement: a cake case! Believe it or not, it even smells like bread too! Asians are just too ingenious and creative when it comes to trinkets like this.
