TITLE: CORIANDER
LOCATION: TIANXINGYUAN SPRING PANCAKES (?)
MISSION: ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER DINNER
DATE: 2011-12-11

Tianxing Yuan (天兴园) is small place right next to Xiaoliang (晓亮), my favourite hair salon (way better than WAS). I have passed by here more than a few times, always curious about how to translate 春饼. If you translate it directly just like that, you get something like "spring cake", which I feel leaves something to be desired. While you have a look at the pictures and get an idea what these "cakes" are about, I'll just refer to them as pancakes. They basically replace the rice as the staple and is a nice twist on the typical Chinese cuisine. Oh, and did I mention that I don't like coriander? Damn. Our 鱼香肉丝 (pork sautéed with spicy garlic sauce) was more coriander than anything else (picture #5). They should have called it "Traces of Meat on a Fragrant Bed of Coriander" instead. Coriander might be an aquired taste, but I am awefully tempted to get that "No Coriander" T-shirt.
