Yesterday we rounded off our Beijing trip with a visit to the enormous Summer Palace. If you look at it on a map, observe the scale and note that the entire lake and the nearby mountain are both man made. Even though it is midwinter, the park (a huge park) was still packed with people. Tons and tons of people. And still I they tell me it gets even more crowded in the summertime. So crowded that you can hardly move. It is a beautiful park, true, but it might also be one of the world's biggest tourist traps. The stone boat in the background is just one of the many famous views in the park, but there is so much more to see if you venture off the beaten path.
