TITLE: NO CONCUBINES THIS TIME
LOCATION: 颐和园
MISSION: FIND A BOAT TO THE SUMMER PALACE
DATE: 2009-06-01

Today we did the Summer palace. We read about a ferry going through central 北京 all the way to the palace, but it was impossible to find out if it was still in bussines or not! I had the hotel reception call, and boy did the receptionist call! After 10+ phonecalls all over 北京 did we conclude that its unclear wheter there will be a boat or not. She tried the Chinese Eniro, she tried calling the firm operating the boat, the park from which the the ferry leaves...nothing. So we ended up taking the bus instead. This happens way too often in China. The weather was way better this time, nowhere near as smoggy as when I came here with the sisters. We also took a different route this time around, which was nice. When we came back to the hotel in the evening we decided to go explore the famous 胡同 alleyways (hutongs) just west of the hotel. They were really interesting, just like you imagine they would be. We even stopped at a tiny, tiny restaurant for a quick beer before getting lost and asking our way back to the hotel. If you ask me, this was way more fun than some the traditional sights here in Beijing.
