The army is one of those things you just have to see if you come to Xi'an. It was of course on our to-do/to-see list. It is located quite the distance outside of Xi'an, so taking the bus was the way to go. When we arrived we had a decent lunch in on of the grossly overpriced restaurants just outside the Terracotta Army area. As for the army, we hired one of the official guides to enlighten us about both the soldiers and the emperor's tomb. All together it really is a marvel to behold; the dedication and ingeniousness of the ancient Chinese is impressive and learning about the reasons behind the construction of the army and the choice of its location was great as well. On the way back we took the 9xx-bus instead of the 3xx, both go back to X'ian and the 9xx happened to arrive first. Bad idea. It turned out that the 9xx was the slow route through the villages instead of the nice highway one straight back home. One bumpy ride, I tell you!
